Orange Beets!

Harvesting in the vegetable garden is a fun time especially when

trying new things. Tom planted these earlier this spring and this is what we are getting now....

Tom usually bring us pickled beets from time to time. I wonder how he will prepare these?

Texture in the Garden

Red cabbage and 'Green Globe' artichoke. I love the colors and textures in this spot of the garden.

Ugly Duckling

The vegetable garden. It is the "in between" time of year.

Just cool enough for some things like lettuce, mustard, spinach (seeds and plants) and broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower transplants if you can still find them. Still picking the cabbages from the garden. They are beautiful.

The warmer bright sunny days make you want to get the rest of the garden going.

It's not warm enough yet for beans, squash, or even tomatoes. You must get those tomato plants when you find them now as they will not last long. Pot them up into one gallon containers so you can get a jump on the season before the heat sets in.

Tom has been been cleaning the garden, adding compost and tilling. Somethings are still producing and the freshly tilled soil is a great blank canvas ready for those warmer days ahead.

All Dressed Up with a Top Coat

Our fall vegetable garden is being redone. Fresh layer of new compost we are trying has been applied here. (I will report back on this product later.) Tom has taken out all the sad plants that were hanging on through the summer and put them to compost. The nursery is receiving fresh fall vegetables each week now and Tom will be putting some of them into the freshly tilled garden. You should stop by and see what is growing. Everything, plants and people are enjoying this bit of moisture we have been receiving.

Vegetable Garden

Tom has been working on the garden. Removed all the winter vegetables, added a layer of compost and all tilled in. After this morning's low temperatures have passed I am certain he will be out there planting.
